One time I was at Fort Dobbs and watched a woman turning a huge roasting chicken (must have been on steroids) and a joint of ham on strings over a large fire pit and thought that this was an all day affair. I tried the string thing and while it worked pretty well in roasting the bird, it was really time consuming.
